Get ready to get scared, Halloween Horror Nights has being at Universal Studios and it being their 30th anniversary, it's one you don't want to miss! 30 fears but there was soooo much more to scream about than just the 30 icons. Been to horror nights before in 2018 and it was a blast, got to say it has only gotten better as this year's was amazing! The scare zones were so creepy, I dreaded having to go through them! The chainsaw people omg my freaking nightmare! And the house were so amazing from the actors to the graphics and set up!
Horror Nights goes on from September 3 to October 31. Click here to get your tickets; honestly with the pandemic still going on I don't recommend getting the express passes as it's not at full capacity (closer to Halloween we get, the more packed it will get. Plan your ticket purchases accordingly.) Though I do recommend getting park passes with your Horror Night tickets, my fam and I decided to splurge on both and it was the best! We spent the full day at the parks; morning and afternoon riding roller coasters and a night full of scares. Universal was cautious with the covid problem by keeping all the actors/scarers behind plexi glass in the houses and cautioning parties to stay together as a unit and separate from others.
Now, time to list all the houses and scare zones here in order of my fave to least fave:
Houses
Beetlejuice (not super scary but so much fun! The actor at the beginning was hilarious but my favorite thing hands down was the spinning room; I've seen that before in haunted houses and they never get to me but this one made me trip all over myself! So good!)
The Haunting of Hill House (not too many spoilers from the tv show; the house was amazingly creepy with an all-black hallway! Definitely a top 3 for everyone p.s. make sure you look up in the hallway)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (wow the smell was horrific and so were all the manic chainsaw people. Knew they were coming but I could help but scream my head off; this one made me want to run as fast as I could)
Halloween Horror Nights Icons (love the directors theme it was really cool and the throne guy; actually got jump-scared quite a few times in this house too! Overall a pretty cool house and recommend because it the theme of the year)
Welcome To Scarey: Horror In The Heartland (don't count this one out because of the Ohio theme, Ohio is freaky ya'll. Pretty good house overall and definitely got some screams out of me! Loved how many different creatures there were!)
The Wicked Growth: Realm of the Pumpkins (loved the entrance and all the pumpkin details! The pumpkin drippings and design was really innovative and cool. I don't remember much about this one, but I can tell ya'll that the end will get you)
Revenge of the Tooth Fairy (honestly not super scary but I don't want to go anywhere near a dentist anytime soon. I went first in our little group conga line for this house so that made this house a bit more terrifying for me! Honestly, I wasn't too excited for this one but it was good actually!)
Case Files Unearthed: Legendary Truth (this one was one of my most-excited-for but ended up leaving me displeased. It wasn't too scary and it was based more on a story that I couldn't quite get and not really jump scares. Let's just say 1 AM Lauren could care less about a story)
9 AND 10 are the Puppet Theatre: Captive Audience / Universal Monsters: The Bride of Frankenstein Lives (wasn't able to get to these but the reviews weren't the best at the time)
Scare Zones
Seek and Destroy (Ya'll I literally DREADED this one and it was the one we kept having to go through. It's the chainsaws...hate them. The alien theme was pretty cool though!)
30 Years, 30 Fears (the entrance for the theme and it was pretty cool with lights and fire and music! Definitely got the creepy atmosphere going; but, honestly why it's #2 is because of the worst scare I got from the entire night, click here to watch my Insta reel which I put the full video of me getting the living daylights scared out of me. So mad at my group for not telling me he was behind me)
Crypt TV (okay I gotta say these actors were so into it!! I know I keep saying that but its true; anyways, watch out for the creepiest guy in between a stage and bushes, saw him from the corner of my eye and he did the hush-finger signal and I almost died. Also, the girl with the knife on a stage, ya'll will definitely know her when you see her, creepiest thing ever. She saw my sister and pointed to her and literally did not stop staring at her even after we got out of the scare zone. So so scary and good)
Gorewood Forest (so cool!! Loved all the details and decor used! Just watch out for things that may pop out from the sides...ya I'm talking about those stilt-arm things... definitely got me a few times)
Lights Camera Hackton: Eddie's Revenge (the actors were so cool (love how into their roles they get) and the stupid chainsaws again my God just kill me now)
Recommendations
If its your first time going to hhn, ya'll need some comfy shoes! Sneakers are the only way to go for this as you are going to walking and standing waiting in lines for hours upon hours. I wore these super cute sock sneakers that protected my feet (and kept me from breaking my ankles every time I tripped) though if you want more cushion I'm like these comfy ones. Also, make sure ya'll are staying hydrated, I know the drinks can be cool and you want to do as many houses as possible, but get that water in. Lastly, the houses stay open until 2AM meaning it's going to get cold, pack a jacket or some long sleeves! I bought the cutest jean jacket from Amazon that's under $40. Lastly, a mini backpack is an essential to hold keys, wallets, jackets, germ-x, face masks, hair ties, and waters!
This was the best way to celebrate the beginning of Fall and start all the Halloween spooks. Though, I think I've got enough screams for the year, Imma stick to Casper for the rest of October. Literally lost my voice for over a day and my sister got it even worst, her voice was gone for almost 3-4 days. This years hhn is one ya'll need to try out and if it's your first time, good luck!
